About the Data Portal
This data portal provides access to results from the 2016 and 2022 Missouri County-Level Studies (CLS) and the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) data from 2014-2023. Data can be accessed through the reporting interface and the Map Room. Create reports for one or more counties, cities, health districts, or regions to find data from both the CLS and BRFSS. The data can be viewed as age-adjusted or crude prevalence rates, with population subgroups available when supported by the survey sample size.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services collaborates with the University of Missouri Center for Applied Research and Engagement Systems (CARES) to produce the data portal and data portal tools.

About the Survey
The Missouri County-level Study (CLS) and the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) use similar survey methodologies to track health behaviors and chronic conditions. However, there are some key distinctions. The CLS involves approximately 50,000 randomly selected Missouri adults and provides valuable health information at the county level, including for 114 Missouri counties and the City of St. Louis. BRFSS is a national survey, conducted yearly by the CDC in collaboration with state health departments, that tracks health behaviors and chronic conditions across all 50 states and U.S. territories. BRFSS data provide more frequent snapshots at regional and statewide levels. Together, these studies allow for comparisons of health behaviors and conditions across different regions and populations, helping to inform both local and national public health efforts.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services collaborated with the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU) Health and Behavioral Risk Research Center to conduct both the CLS and BRFSS. Trained interviewers from MU called landline and cell phone numbers throughout 2022. Weekday calls occurred between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., while weekend calls began later and ended earlier.
